Books are more than their plots; they are a window into a time that was, even if not politically correct any longer. We don't rewrite history even if we don't agree with how people handled situations then. As far as "coincidences" in the plot, true a mite unbelievable, but a fun read just the same. A pity to knock a classic of childhood by viewing it through the microscope of an adult.
